Katie Vamps It Up for My Birthday
Posting this shot was Laura's idea. "How the hell do I follow up that shot of you?" "Post one of Katie in that swimsuit, guys'll like that one." So here you have it. Katie, in costume change #2 during that all-day shoot. We'd initially planned to drive all over town shooting, but it was wicked hot, and her apartment building ended up being perfect for what we'd wanted to do. Pool, shade, close to her apartment for easy costume changes, nice backgrounds. We did try a pumpkin patch, but boy, that place was more than a little chintzy. Only a few pumpkins, cut rate attractions, right on the corner of a busy intersection. But I'd already spent the afternoon staring at Katie through my camera, so really, what do I have to complain about? Medium format of an earlier shot from this shoot over at the blog: blog.louobedlam.com/post/60690885/this-is-the-medium-form... Oh, and the only half-decent pumpkin patch shot here.
What, You Thought I Was Gonna Post a Photo of a Turkey?
Yeah, the actual facts upon which today's based are a bit of rubbish. But there's nothing wrong with the spirit of the day. For today is the day we celebrate the fact that Pumpkins still roam the earth, and are thankful for that fact. In addition, I am thankful for all the beautiful ladies who let me point my camera at them. And for all the beautiful ladies who help me while I point my camera at other beautiful ladies. And the beautiful dudes who lend me their homes and come along for the ride, and point their cameras at the beautiful ladies while I point my cameras at the beautiful ladies. So, when you're eating pie tonight, think of me, and beautiful people. And be thankful. I'll be here watching The Shield (I'm already two episodes in!), eating pumpkin ice cream I cleverly bought yesterday, and maybe attending a dinner or two. Because the only thing better than Pumpkin ice cream is Pumpkin ice cream and then Pumpkin pie. More Katie hotness on the blog: blog.louobedlam.com/post/61828573/this-one-didnt-work-out...

Little girls having a tea party
These two happy little girls are having a tea party on the porch. It looks like it was taken in the late 1920's or early 1930's. At one time the picture was in an album with black pages.
I love these shoes. I wish i had some just like them. I am looking for some in a large child size. Since i am short i have small feet and can sometimes find them to fit me!!! Oh i do hope i can. We'll be twinkies!!! And the envy of all feet.
Four girls - "ain't we cute?"
It took a little bit of restoration on this one but it was worth it. Four smiling girls sitting on a porch rail. A pose if I ever saw one.

Sentimental Find : Roller Girls Nolee
I was going through some stuff that I picked from my parents house awhile ago and to my surprise I found this girl. She was part of the Roller Girls Line that was towards the end( I think) of the My Scene run in the US. I remember being obsessed with those dolls . I had them all for the exception of Madison ( she never showed up in any store). I remember picking her up after the Highschool day ended and being so embarrassed to go through the checkout line. At that time I was really secretive about my collecting. It was that awkward stage between being too "old" and "cool" to want to "play" with dolls and young enough not to know that doll collecting IS cool. It also was the time before I knew about flickr so there was not that support of fellow doll collectors. Luckily, I found out about doll collecting sites and became part of the community and have been happy ever since. =-) Anyways, getting to my point I am definitely going to re-root but am stumped on a color. I am thinking maybe black or purple nothing that is too clash-ey with her eyes. I think she also needs a little paint touch up, she came with really odd screening on her eyebrows and eyes in the first place and time has not helped. =-S

"The Day I Was Found by The Girl at the Bar" (The "Strangers No More" Project)
On March 2011, as I was getting out of our former apartment on Greenwich Ave, I glanced quickly at the window of Johnny's Bar, above which we had lived for 5 years. Many times I had seen that frame before, same scenario, different players. But that day, it was special. In the shade, mysterious, beautiful with only her face lit, she sat... The girl at the bar. I took a candid shot and kept walking. Two days later, I posted it to Flickr and a few weeks later on Instagram as well. It always remained one of my favorite candids. Three months later, we left that neighborhood and moved to Brooklyn. Then, last week, suddenly, magic stoke again. As one Instagram user was browsing the tag #JohnnysBar, she saw my picture and recognized her friend. And therefore, The Girl at the Bar was found... I'm happy to introduce you to Kera, a gorgeous native from Queens (NY), living in Bed Stuy (Brooklyn) these days. Kera splits her time between her Psychology classes and her work as a private math tutor for the department of education, working with kids from kindergarten to 12. Yesterday I got to meet the lovely Kera, I gifted her a mounted print of my original photograph, and returned to the original location to take this portrait. Here's to the power of serendipity, the magic of breaking the barriers from candid street photography to getting to know our subjects, and the importance of (well used) tags in today's social media. Beautiful Little Moroccan Girl
I found this beautiful little girl in a small kasbah I visited Morocco. This little cutie followed us around as we walked through her village. She would peak her tiny head around every rocky corner as if she was a 007 agent. I think she just liked to see her pretty little face on my LCD screen. This village and the little girl are a great memory for me. It is good to know that you can find things that are beautiful everywhere in the world.

SXSW09 This photo has over 3600 views and no one can explain it's popularity. ...honestly. i don't really like it. i would delete it, but i find it to be a curiosity at this point.
Sonadia Island . Bangladesh. They were just back from fishing and found us in the middle of bushes placing our sleeping bags and with our digi cams and other gadgets.. May be they have never seen such peculiar ppl before and were very curious ... but they were not shy and were eager to see the photos :))... I will call them soul full of Life !
There's something in this little girl's expression - it's frank, dignified, personal, it has gravitas - which I find gripping, especially juxtaposed with her youth, the playfulness of riding a bicycle and the childish design on the foam around the handlebar. Glasgow, 2011. Twitter Facebook

Hmong girl in the rain
In the rain, Hmong girls crossing the main square in their village in Doi Suthep-Doi Pui National Park, Chiang Mai, Thailand. Rising 1676 metres above Chiang Mai, Doi Suthep is one of the most revered religious destinations in Thailand and is often packed with interested onlookers, especially when the weather is cooler and the days crisp and clear. The Doi Suthep-Doi Pui National Park encompasses 261 square kilometres. Evergreen hills, mixed deciduous and pine forest are all represented at the park and there are over 300 bird species and nearly 2000 species of fern and flowering plants that thrive there. During the late day and early morning, the bird species are much in evidence, flitting around the periphery of the temple. Phra Tamnak Phu Phing (Phu Phing Palace), the vacation palace for the royal family, is also in the immediate area and is often included in tours to Doi Suthep, along with a visit to a local Hmong hill-tribe village - where this image was taken. The Hmong People belong to the Austro-Thai linguistic family of the Miao-Yao sub group. The Hmong are a significant ethnic minority in South West China and there are many sub groups. The sub groups in Thailand are the Black Hmong, White Hmong and Stripped Hmong. Today they inhabit the Upper Northern Provinces of Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Nan, Phayao, Lampang, Phrae and Mae Hong Son and the Lower Northern Provinces of Phetchabun, Tak and Phitsanulok. They can also be found in Loei in I 'san. Hmong Sub Groups In Thailand The Black Hmong are located in Nan, Chiang Rai, Tak, Phrae, northern Phetchabun and Phitsanulok. They are distinguished by their costume. Their women wear their hair in a bun and wear dark blue and white pleated knee length skirts with embroidered borders. The men wear a black or dark blue jacket without collar and have wide sleeves and cuffs. Both women and men wear alot of jewelry made of silver. The Striped Hmong can be found in the west of Nan. They wear Black trousers with a dark jacket with embroidered collars and green, white and blue stripes on their long sleeves. The White Hmong are to be found in Nan and Chiang Rai. Their women wear long loose dark blue trousers with plain long sleeved jackets with embroidered collar flaps and a turban. On festive occasions they wear a white skirt with stripes of embroidery down the front [ thus their name]. See where this picture was taken. [?]
girls of summer
I came upon these ladies, two friends enjoying the first rays of the day. I thought them fitting subjects for the feminine theme. In the Urban Dictionary which is written, I imagine, by a group of urban hipsters sitting at a coffee shop, I found an interesting definition for feminine: ~ " Feminine means What pertains to a woman. There are no qualifications. Whatever a woman does is feminine, because they are a woman, and they are doing something that pertains to them. The only thing that can really be called "feminine" are ovaries. A woman in a flowery skirt is feminine. And a woman in leather pants is feminine as well." www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=feminine That definition was written by anonymous and it suits me because basically anything goes. If you're a woman and you are doing whatever, it is feminine. As long as you have your ovaries with you. For ODC ~ feminine
